GOOD TO KNOW
Advantages of a baby wrap
- You have your hands free for everyday tasks while your baby stays close to you.
- A baby wrap satisfies your baby’s natural need for closeness.
- For crying babies, babywearing can significantly reduce adjustment difficulties and regulatory disorders.
- Bonding in a baby wrap increases oxytocin (the cuddle hormone) and can support milk production.
- A baby wrap strengthens the parent–child bond for years. This bonding fosters your child’s basic trust and empathy.
The correct sitting position
For healthy hip development, your baby’s legs should be in the ergonomic M-shape (squat–splay) position. The knees are raised to belly button level and gently spread.
The fabric of the wrap should always go from knee pit to knee pit — this provides optimal support. Your baby’s back should also be well supported so that even when you lean forward, close body contact is maintained.
Tying a baby wrap
There are many different tying methods for baby wraps. We have compiled the most popular ones for you on our instructions page — available as PDFs and step-by-step videos.
Babywearing promotes development
The gentle movements while being carried stimulate your baby’s digestion and help relieve colic.
Your body warmth also helps your baby develop temperature regulation — especially in the first weeks of life.
Babywearing through all seasons
Newborns cannot yet regulate their body temperature very well. A baby wrap or carrier helps them do so.
Tips for the cold season:
- Carry your child close to your body under your jacket. In winter, your body is like a natural hot water bottle.
- Don’t forget the hat — most heat is lost through the head.
- If skin looks bluish-mottled or paler than usual, your child is too cold. If the back of the neck is sweaty, your child is too warm.
Tips for the warm season:
- If the head is red and the neck feels damp, your child is too warm.
- Cool down by undressing the baby.
- Walk and stay in the shade whenever possible.
- Don’t forget sunscreen.
Baby carrier as an alternative
You don’t want to learn wrap tying but still want maximum comfort? Take a look at our carriers: baby carriers are faster and easier to put on than wraps — though not quite as versatile.
Avoid incorrect carrying
Many parents think forward-facing carrying is beneficial. Even if you’ve seen it elsewhere, there are many reasons not to carry your baby facing out.
